Motor tuning question
« on: June 06, 2012, 02:17:20 PM »
In 'Motor tuning and setup' box, it shows the max velocity at 750 mm/min. Is this the max feedrate that mach3 can run?

Thanks in advance.

The Max Velocity shown in motor tuning depends on the kernel you have set and the steps per unit your axis needs.
For example if the kernel was set to 25KHz and your steps per unit were 2000 then the max velocity would be 25,000/2,000 = 12.5units per second or 750 units per min.

Just a note of caution, dont set the kernel higher than you need as it may make your computer unstable. Even if you do need a high kernel you may not be able to achieve it without stability problems, it all depends on your computer.

OK, Thanks Hood. I will leave the kernel setting on 25000Hz as my computer is a little old. Cheers for the warning.

You may manage fine at more if you need it, one thing that gives an idea of how fast you can run things is the Time in Int on diagnostics page. The other is to run the driver test at various frequencies and see how it looks.
