auto zero for tool with 1/8 in plate

Hello I am new to Mach 3 and cnc so bear with me if I sound like I have no idea what I am doing.
I just finished building my cnc router and installed mach 3 and making all my gcode with vcarve pro. Right now I have limit switches that also are used for my reference to home for all 3 axes. My working material is always located at 0,0 so I know where it always is. What I am asking is there a way to set the tip of my cutting blade on the z axis to my material given I have to install by hand and is always different using mach 3 and a pin signal on my breakout board. Right now I have a 1/8 in plate I set on my material and have an ohm meter connected to the bit and the plate when it goes off I lower the z 1/8 in and 0 out the material.
Right now all my axis home and limit is on pin 10 for mach 3
Thank you everyone for your help in advance
