setting up tooltable
« on: March 09, 2012, 05:22:27 AM »
Hello everyone---

Trying to set up mu lathe

Please look at the procedure i am trying to use to set up the tool table.

I cant get the tooltip to repeat when changing tools

t 0101 is the master tool

I am doing the following
( I am using a dickson toolpost)
( the machine is set to diameter mode)
1. select manual
2. put tool 0101 in the tool post
3 enter T0101 Into the mdi line and press enter
4 jog the toolpost to a convienient place and press set home Z    set home x
5 exit screen "manual"
6 select tooltable
7 use jog to set diameter and take a small cut
8 do not move x axis -- but jog tool out of the was and measure the diameter
9 enter this diameter into the x axix DRO
10 jog the tool to righthand edge of the workpiece
11 enter this dimension as 0 into the z dro
12 now select "tool table editor"
13 enterthe description and make sure that all the DRO's are showing "Zero"
14 close tool table editor
15 mdi to2o2 and enter
16 Jog the next tool to the X position and take a small cut
17 Measure the cut and enter this measurement into the X DRO in "Part Zeroing  coordinates"
18 select touch x and press enter
18 Jog to position z0
19 enter 0 into z DRO of "part Zeroing coords"
20 select touch z and enter
21 look at tool table editor - there will be values entered next to tool 2
21 now i exit the tool table
22 open automatic
mdi t0101
mdi g28 (tool will go to home position)
mdi g0 x23 z0  ( tool will go to this position )
mdi g28  ( tool return home)
mdi t0202  ( put tool 2 in the toolpost)
mdi g0 x23 z0 ( now i expect the other tool to move to this position)

when i do this there is usually an error ( the error looks like z is going to radius and not dia)

Your input is appreciated

Does no one else have this problem my lathe is set to operate in diameter mode and always has been but seems to randomly decide to operate in radius mode. sometimes i can correct it with a reboot sometimes i just give up for the day.
If I had something important to say it would be here.

r3.043.062 machstdmill screen for lathe
i thought i was on to something that manual jog after zero return would fix this but not sure now.
I have got it to work correctly without reboot after  a zero return. sometimes after a reset and zero return it goes from working correct back to radius.

My lathe has done this for years. I was using an older ver of mach and a screen that was origanlly for a mill that i changed. I thought the screen was the problem. but i upgraded mach so i could use the machstdmill-lathe screen. this did not run well on my older PC so i had to upgrade it as well. the new PC has a low voltage pp which would not fire my ssr's . now i have a cnc4pc C11 also which is much better just the ssr's.

Have you ever checked to see what the x mode is set to Drew?  I would like to know if something is changeing that on the fly.

Fred, do you have the X mode set to diameter or radius in ports and pins, turn options?

What do you mean?  Give an example.

The x axis overtravles. The offset is set to 3.4 . Dro reads 6.8
It move 1 for 1 instead of .5 to 1

But this is random you say?  I dont think this is software but if you can figure out how to make it repeat someone can probably figure out whats going on.
