« on: March 05, 2012, 01:06:38 PM »
Hello !  I have a Mach 2 ,that has been sitting for a while unused. I plugged it in and a fan or something is running inside box all the time.  This never happened before. Any info. greatly appreciated !

Think you would have to supply a bit more info on what you have. Mach2 is the control software and has nothing to do with fans running as such.

Sorry, It is a CNC micro Milling Machine,4 axis, with a Soft Step 4x483 control box. A fan or motor keeps running inside the control box. Thank You !

Could it possibly be that the fan is noisy from sitting dormant, and always did run but much quieter before ?

Just a recollection from a previous experience,  ::)

Could be ?  I am thinking there may be dust built up inside also...I guess that is my next step,to pull cover off, just to see if dusty. Thanks for the post !

a drop of oil in the bushing should fix it

Thanks !  I really do not think anything should be running just sitting there plugged in though ?

Yes, if it's a cooling fan for the drives, it will run the whole time to keep things cool and/or to exhaust any heat from the control box.

Yes it is the cooling fan for the drives. I never heard it running before while it was just sitting there plugged in. No program running. That is what has me puzzeled. It will run all the time. I am afraid it will burn the motor up. I have to keep it unplugged. Thank You !
