Softlimit Warning when referencing the table
« on: January 30, 2012, 09:48:08 PM »
Hello everyone...
I need a little guidance with referencing my tools to the table top, instead of the height of the material.
For all my project thus far, I've always referenced the top of the material, and have had no issues.
This time however, the surface of the material I am using is too ruff for zeroing.
I get the error, softlimit warning on Z minimum, and I can not for the life of me figure out
where this error is actually generated. Everything seems within limits.

So whats happening behind the scene when you select the material thickness for reference
over the table top for reference?

Oh, I'm using VCarve pro for designing my projects. (and have it configured for table surface for this project)

Thanks!
Chris

I've now tried both the Lockdown version and the development version.
(Currently on the development)

No change, I still get the softlimit warning...
Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Your Soft Limits are in reference to the Machine Coordinates. This limits themovement to prevent a crash at the end of an axis.
Check the setting in Homing/Limits for the Z minimum.
Typically, Z 0 is max (all the way up) and Z min is downward in the negative direction.
Warning on Z minimum means you are attempting to go BELOW the setting.

Thanks for the help.

This maybe this is a Post Processor issue then as I know the softlimits are set correctly.
I'll look into it a alittle further...

My Z axis goes from 0 to +3.5"
I zero my tool to the table, then reference the table.

After I load the code in, the Z axis wants to move to -0.5
(the thickness of the material)

Hit go, and I get the error.

Not sure you have a grip on Machine coords vs Program coords.
No Z valus should be + in Soft limits. (mach. coords)
Z, (the tool) all the way UP is Z 0, all the way DOWN is Z - *.***.
If your PROGRAM coords are not within these MACHINE coords, you will get the error.
Reference the MACHINE first, THEN set your tool to the current work offset using Program coordinates.
I'll post the section of the manual.

Sorry, typo, my Z limit is set 0 thu -3.75

I never had a chance to flash up the machine last night,
might get some time tonight... After reading the manual (again)
I 'think' I'm set up correctly... I'll at least double check tonight.

again, thanks for the info.

Well, I got the system working.

I 'think' it was a corupt file...
I changed a setting in Mach3, saved it, but reverted the setting back.
(So I think resaving the file fixed the corruption)

Not 100% sure, but either setting the tool to the top of the workpiece
or the table and it works fine now....

Thanks!
