I am afraid you are putting money into a bad idea by trying to FIX the problem. I would ask them politely to just refund your money. Take the loss and buy a real cnc machine. IF you are into making parts for a livin then spend the money to buy at least a Tormach or better a good used real world CNC machine such as a mini HAAS or a small fadal or something along those lines.

Tinker toys are NOT where you need to be trying to make a living.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

You are right. I had a HAAS VF3 in my shop that I wish I had now. Unfortunately I lost everything when I lost my shop, so resources are quite low at the moment.

The spindle thought you had with the keling won't do you any good, wrong application.

At this point my only option is to fix the problems with this machine. Machine envelope wise it is not much smaller than the Haas VF3 I had at my shop. With the large table they offer for it and some risers under the column it would have about the same as the VF3. It is very rigid, it weighs 1700 lbs with the right spindle motor and reliable electronics I believe it would be suitable for light production

Why not adapt your own 3 phase motor to the current spindle, and use a quality VFD.

OK, it's like I was saying. These spindle motors will NOT work for you. These are for machining at high speed, in soft materials like wood etc. If the original spindle motor was one of these then Sybil sold you a wrongly configured machine. You need a low speed spindle motor, something that has torque at maybe 1500 rpm for a 1/2" mill cutter. Chip size is an indication of what is going wrong there, I bet you had aluminium wool coming off the mill, far too fine, there were no real chips. Guessing you were trying to run the spindle at low speeds and that is right, there is NO torque down there, which is why a knee mill has mechanical gearing with belts etc.

I must be missing something. Syil X6 spec, on their web site, shows R8 200-5000 RPM spindle. That's a long way from one of these 6000-24000 high speed spindles. I know nothing about Syil's, but something doesn't fit here.

I think what he needs is to replace the existing motor with one that will actually WORK correctly. In this case not an easy feat. There may not be room for a 2hp 3ph ac motor to use with a VFD. AND the extra weight may be a problem for the Z.

Another option would be to use a DC motor 2hp. and control. (normally a smaller package, but expensive)

It sounds as thought the original control board for the motor was not set correctly, possible wrong amp setting(no torque).

The syil website specs on the x6 says 200 - 5000 but in reality the machine actually comes with the sangmutan 1500W motor and it runs from 400 -3500 rpm

It not only has no torque it just shuts down in the middle of a cut randomly. It doesnt matter if you are cutting .001 " or .100 "
