LazyTurn Question: How do I set the "Stock Diameter" ?
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:53:04 AM »
Just starting to play around with LazyTurn (Thank You Art F. for another great program!)

I decided to make a bullet patter with a 0.125" radius (0.25" dia stock)
When the .dxf file loads in - it assumes a stock diameter of 0.2875..
I want to be able to change that Stock Diameter to say 0.375 (example)
AND
have Lazy turn rough the length of the bullet down (right now it roughs the bullet end only - not the shank portion....

anyone have any advice?

Thanks
Joe

Ok- I found that if I click the Triangle/Pentag of the rough stock diameter - I can insert a new diameter.

However, the program is still not roughing the diameter down..  ?

Any ideas?

Joe,
There is a manual for Lazyturn. Have a read of it and don't hack your way through the program.
Here is a link to it in Members Doc's:

Understand, but think you'll find that you'll get to the top of the mountain quicker if ya have a look at the manual to find the easier path
to the top. Falling off the cliff on the way hurts and gets old quick.  ;)

Hey Rich,

Actually I have printed the manual out and skimmed/read through it a couple of times....
(excellent job on the manual by the way...)
I just have to become more familiar with software and manual

I'm reading through all the forum postings right now

Still haven't found out how to control the toolpath down the rough

Joe,
Believe it or not, for the most part, all 130 +- pages of the all the postings are covered in the manual.
Pay attention to how the drawing should be done. Download the file used in section 7.2 and duplicate what i did
and then try different tools, etc to see what the affects are on the pathing.

Will Do, Rich.

BTW - Changing Stock Diameter - P31 of 50 in main manual.

Still trying to figure out how to do the rough section of the shank (or just how to better control the cut path...)  but I'll check into your example next

Thanks again

Usually you would draw the profile for what you want and before you even start you probably know what stock size you will use.
For the rough cut try taking a rather large depth of cut, say .125", see what kind of pathing you get with the tool you have selected.
then reduce the cut in half, then in half again, this way you will quickly see a workable path generation and remaining material to be removed. Very easy to redo.
The idea of the rough is to remove as much material as possible , then refine it with a rough finish and finaly a finishing cut.
Doing the example will give you a flavor of tool use. Not much difference then if you were doing it manualy on the tool side.
