K thanks all...  got the bank onto it.. sometimes she lets me buy toys :)

(i woudl have to grind that probe point down a bit tho.. and reason not to, will damage summing inside it.. bear in mind, by grind im referring to refined jewellers diamond discs.. not an actual grinder.

you can get different tips, extensions. 1mm dia is the smallest I believe . http://www.cadcamcadcam.com/contactprobe.aspx

It will work great on a flat type surface BUT if the surface is very rounded the tip may tend to slide off the SLOPE at the contact point before the probe trips and not give a true profile to the .001" accuracy. It may alter the actual profile a touch.

IF MACH had the inverse probe option G31.2 (Trip on reset instead of trip on contact)  this would not be a problem.

But is is what it is.

So it all depends on your perspective of accurate (;-)

@Rich, i did look at laser scanning, not high enough resolution, plus i work with jewellery, reflection is always an issue and the steep wall inclines tended to "stripe" I only ever used david laser scanner tho, not sure if a dedicated system would pay itself off..

@br549, i would like to able to do both actually...

@tweakie.. i have kinect and wii and love both.. but the res is a little low.. at the risk of being politically incorrect, this is what i love my wii for the most..

These will be supper in the next year or 2. They go to the creek when the lake freezes.

As far as bambi goes, oh well. I broke my back in a motorcycle accident because of over population. But that led me to cnc and here so it kinda evened out.

Happy summer/winter

kinect scan. its  a picture on top of a depthfield of the bear, i think? anyway, vid is small, but the bear is actually not bad..

it gets you to place the bear (any toy) close to the camera and then hold it still while it (scans infrared/passive depthfield)?

turn bear around line up the edge then scans the back.. the output model is lowpoly, bit lumpy but not bad.. this particular incantation of the program sticks googly eyes on it then maps the bear movements to your body movements, bit silly but i do see application of the technology in the future.
