PLEASE HELP
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:28:08 AM »
Hello all,

We recently purchased a CNC Mill from China to cut a slot in a plastic box. We have had nothing but problems right from delayed shipping to the spindle motor turning to smoke the first time we turned it on. We have just replaced the spindle motor with a small router as an interim measure while we obtain a replacement motor. However, now we are in trouble with time to get the project underway.

We started looking at GCode yesterday to create a simple slot and at first look it's all double dutch at the moment. I was wondering if there was someone out there who could help us make the code. I don;'t mind paying you to help with this.

The slot is in 3 mm thick plastic.  The slot is 125 mm long x 25 mm wide. On the inside edge there is a 3 mm wide x 1.5 mm deep landing (to insert an engraved name plate 1.5 mm thick which sits on the landing and flush with the outside)  So the actual slot or hole part through the plastic is 19 mm wide x 119 mm long and then the 3 mm landing, making a total the size of the slot 125 mm x 25 mm.  Does this make sense?

Any help would be appreciated as we are behind schedule.

Thanks,

William

what size cutters have you got and where is your datum point?
Without engineers the world stops

We are using a 5 mm end mill bit as this matches the radius in the corners.

Datum point?  Please explain.

Thanks for the reply.

William,

I am sure Graham will compile the code for you but in the meantime have a look at the Pocket Cutting Wizard within Mach. You would perhaps need to use two instances of the wizard, one for the pocket and one for the recess but they could both be combined into one final GCode file.

Tweakie,

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you enter the dimensions into the fields provided?  There's no way to save them.

Hi William,

Enter the data then press the 'Return' key.  ;)

(This rule applies across the board with Mach and it just becomes routine so we perhaps take it for granted that everyone knows about it and it doesn't get included as an instruction).

FYI ... Oh but it is included in the instructions. :)
But it is comonly overlooked, as well as much of the documentation. ::)
