Early 90's Precix 9100 upgrade
« on: May 28, 2011, 07:24:21 PM »
Hello,

I'm in need of some direction on upgrading and early 90's Precix 9100 router. This 3 axis machine has a massive obsolete controller. What I would like to do is upgrade the controller and install Mach3 that can translate mt AutoCAD 2011. Can someone poimt me in the right direction?

Any and ALL help will be greatly appreciated!

 Thanks,  Jon

Retrofitting Mach3 is possible. BUT mach 3 cannot directly translate Autocad Drawings. You export the ACad drawing as a DXF and then translate that via a CAM program to a Gcode program that MACH3 can use.

I'm open to any suggestions software. This machine has been collecting dust for a couple years now. We have an old version of GibbsCam('02) that will only read ACad '05 now.  Thanks for the reply.

Nothing wrong with acad5  it will still do everthing it did when new. How many ways can you DRAW a line arc and circle (;-)

I bet Gibbs cam will read any modern DXF file (;-)

IF the controller still worked I would put it back to work.
