Remote readout
« on: May 20, 2011, 01:12:16 PM »
Hi All, I have been searching for a pendant and have finally bought one. during the process I saw the ones with the LCD read out and thought it was a good idea but I really don't want it on the pendant but mounted in a box and mounted above the mill. So my question is how would I build a remote LCD for the DRO`s ? Is there a kit or instructions on how to build one?? Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

Hi,

Quite a few people have built panels and remote displayes using the ModIO and it's 20*4 LCD display.

If you have a look on the Mach3 support wiki, there is some great info of various ways to achieve what you want.

The Pendant kit parts  I sell could also be used to make a panel rather than put it in the handheld enclosure. Rather than the whole kit, you could just purchase the parts you need. The Pendantkit  plugin will then allow you to use it to just be a remote display.

I looked through most of the info and the easyest way would be to get the ModIO and LCD but I am really looking for a USB solution, any ideas?

Mach2 has VB functions for outputting to a serial port.  If you can find a USB display that looks to the system like a serial port, this would be an easy way to interface it, using a few lines of VB in a custom macropump.
