I have an anilam 1100m with servos that use tachs.
What have you folks done for encoders?
Thanks

Most people use either US Digital or AMT encoders, the latter getting very good reports.

Thank you,
I was looking for more detail.
What encoder part number?
Is there anything that will not require machining the motor shaft?
Probably a disassemble, clean and new bearings and brushes would not be a bad idea.

If you will be using the parallel port you would be looking for an encoder of around 500 lines (2000 quadrature) There are many ways of fitting encoders but the ones entioned above are hollow shaft modular types and can be bought to suit the shaft size of your motor (up to a certain size depending on model of encoder)
Watch what you are doing when removing the armature from a motor as you can easilt damage the magnets as they have a very strong pull and can chip if you let them hit the outer casing. Also I believe that if left outside of the motor for extended periods you risk a certain amount of demagnetization.

Most Anilam 1100's have tachs on the motor feeding back to the drives AND encoders on the motor, feeding back to the controller, you may have useable encoders in place already. What are you doing with the old Anilam parts???

This control has a tach on the back of the motor. Position came from the glass scale.
I sold everything except for the motors and drives on Ebay.
