Question about saving (and a new forum suggestion)
« on: November 24, 2006, 10:09:43 AM »
I have been programming in gcode and I have set up all my offsets and tools in Mach3.  Is there a way to save all the setting from the various screens in the gcode file other then hand writing them?

Also I have a suggestion to create a forum for people to post projects that they have cut with Mach3.  You have a forum for machines but not what they produce.

Thanks.

Dan

Hey Dan,
Forgive me, I don't understand exactly what it is you are asking about saveing. ???

I like the suggestion about the cuts forum. ;D
;D If you could see the things I have in my head, you would be laughing too. ;D

I dont understand the save question either. But here is the section where you can share your projects http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?board=33.0

Thanks Benny,
I had forgotten about that. I saw your simulator a few weeks ago and sent a link to my friend who has a router. Good job.

Oh, didn't see the design exchange but it is kind of buried.

Anyhow, I input the A axis diameters, tooling offsets, and tool information and then type in some gcode.  When I save the only information that is saved in the .txt file is the gcode.  I am sure there is an xml file saved somewhere but I would like all the setup information and the gcode saved in one file.

Is there a way to do that?

Hello Dan,
Please forgive me once again, I just want to make sure myself and others understand the question.
1. You go to the Offsets page and set up tools and materials.
2. You go to Program Run page, edit gcode and manually type in your gcode.
3. You want to save all of this in one file?
I can think of a couple of ways to cut down on confusion and speed up your setup time. (I think) ;D

Yes that is basically what i do for simple programs that do not require me to use a CAM program.

Sorry about the confusion.  As you can tell I probably use the program in an inefficient way.  Thats why I asked.

1. You could put your notes in the gcode. If you put it in parenthesis () Mach will not read it as code. Example (Small stand plate).
2. You could assign dedicated tools to the job and save them in tool offsets, you have 253 of these. Same is true for the work offsets. I think there are 252 of these. I know a lot of people don't like these but I love dowel pins. In conjunction with dedicated fixtures and tools, they make for some really fast setups. ;D

I hope this helps.

Another thing. We were talking about metric and imperial profiles of Mach. I don't know why you couldn't do this. I don't know how many profiles you can have though. A profile for one specific job. Not my first choice but I think doable.
