Mach3 seems slower than mach2
« on: March 26, 2011, 04:11:40 PM »
Just loaded Mach 3 in my computer and it seems to rapid slower than it did on Mach2.
I think it has to do with telling Mach three about the gecko 540 to recognize it.
Help

Not really sure what you are meaning, are you saying you are unable to set the motor tuning values up to the same velocity as you had in Mach2? If so it may be you require a higher kernel set. Dont go too high on the kernel though as it may impact on performance, all depends on your computer.

Yes I did try a higher kernel speed @45k and did not do much. I think I might try the sherline mode next.

So what is the actual problem? Are your motors stalling at a slower speed than you could obtain with Mach2?
If you want to attach your xml for both Mach2 and Mach3 I will see if I can find an issue, but really need to know what I am actually looking for as the problem.

I think I will have to reload gecko driver
It doesn't stall , it use to rapid @ 40ipm  , now about 12ipm.
When I loaded Mach III it removed Mach II & most of it's components.
I still have the gecko 540 XML though.

Installing Mavch3 will not remove Mach2, I can assure you of that as I have both on this computer :)
So if its not stalling what is hhappening? seems to me like you maybe dont have the steps per unit set correctly or you do not have the Velocity set high enough.

I have it set @ 40000 to the inch . I have 20 tpi leadscrews w/gecko540.
It moves the correct amount on my dro that I have hooked to each axis.
I will figure it out today after resting up from the F1 night race ,stayed up all night.

Ok so if its moving the correct distance is it just when you are jogging that it is slow or is it with a G0 move?
If its jogging press the tab key and see if you have a slow jog % set.

Problem solved ,
I had it set to high of a kernel speed.
I put it on 25k and it hauls butt now.
In Mach 2 it ran great at 45k
Mach 3 seems to like 25k better.
Thanks for the moral support.

Good to hear, its a normal human trait  to see 100KHz and think it must be best but normally the best setting is the one that is just enough for the motor tuning settings you have, 25K in your case :)
