Want to know what you think about this cnc
« on: December 27, 2010, 04:34:09 AM »
Hi, for some time I want to buy a small VMC.

Just found from this company http://www.majesticmachinery.com/vmachining
a small VMC mill.

This is the BobMIll model but with ATC, servo motor full enclosure is available.

This is the big brother of the MK2 model, it's the MK3

BT30 spindle with 5 HP motor up to 6000 RPM but a more powerful spindle is also available.

Linear axis for X, Y and Z.

Coolant pump.

Rigid Tapping is an option

22 3/4 of travel for X axis at 750 IPM rapid

Just included the PDF for all the specs.

I know that this is not a Mach3 controlled machine, that's why I post it in this section

Just would like to know what you think about this machine.

Any owner of the MK2 series, please tell me about your experience.

Please, I want to have your tough about it.

Thanks a lot, Jeff

Cant tell you anything about the mill but the specs say the control is Industry Controls which if my memory serves me right is an OEM Industrial version of Mach.  It will probably use the Scorpion or the MCB-1 motion control boards.

The one in your attached pic looks like a different control.

I am curious how they offer rigid tapping as an option on a mach3 control with a VFD? The specs didn't say much about the machine. I would wanna know if its stepper/servo based. If servo is it brushed or AC. Torrance it will hold etc...Also not sure if you knew or not but it appears this machine requires 3 phase power. i would recommend the full enclosure or a good raincoat if your going to use it with flood coolant. I am not sure what they are charging for this machine but I have seen quite a few older small Haas machines on ebay cheap. Might be worth a look.

Here is an example... seen them cheaper than this in the past and its a ton more machine for the $.

I'm not very interested in old machine.

The Haas model is from year 1994 (17 years old )meaning that is has probably  between 30000 and 40000 spindle hours, and same thing on ball screw.

Electronic, specially capacitors, have a life span between 15 and 20 years meaning it has to be rebuilt from inside to outside.

Not much memory, old controller, etc.

If you look at the PDF file attached to my post, you can look at the specification of the machine.

This is not a mach3 controller, it is based on Windows, like many others controller but they could fit any controller available, like Fanuc, Siemens.

Price are in the range of $30000 to $50000.

Jeff

Sorry, I did not read all the description on Ebay, New spindle and new ball screws.

This is not a mach3 controller,
Jeff

What makes you so certain of that?

Rigid tapping is an option, whether it is an  available option with the Industry Controls controller I dont know. If it is though it will be because it will likely be using the MCB-1 motion controller so the rigid tapping, I would presume, is controlled onboard.

Jeff, found what I had been thinking regards Mach and Industry Controls, here is what Brian had to say on the subject a while back.

Hello All...

I think this is a good segue into what I have been working on in the
background. As many of you are aware, this is a prime time for Mach3 to
make a break into the commercial marketplace (everyone is looking for
the lower cost solution). A few companies have combined forces to offer
a very well supported system based on a special version of Mach (Mach
Industrial Version (Mach IV)). This is an exclusive bit of software
that will only be sold from Industry Controls, and has phone support as
well as dedicated motion control hardware.

Quote
The software for Industry Controls will not run the P Port or the
Plugins for normal Mach3, nor will the Mach3 SDK work with the
industrial version. Any and all addons will need to be acquired from
Industry Controls.

After all, maybe you're right, this could be a Mach3 based controller.

I was not aware of the pro series of Mach3

I'm also waiting for the Syil V7 and the new Mikini 1610LP which is suppose to have servo motor and ATC.

Should be ready in the first quarter of 2011.

They don't want to send picture or any more information.
