Higher Steps/Unit in Motor tuning- How can i improve the IPM?
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:33:04 AM »
Hi Guys,

I recently purchased G203 V Gecko drives that having 10Microsteps...
My setup for X and Y axes:

Motor= 1.8 degree= 200Steps
Belt Reduction:        3:1
Ball Screw            : 5TPI
Gecko Microstep:       10

Steps/Inch =200 x 3 x 5x 10 =30000 Steps/Inch

I am running my 1GHz processor computer in 35KHz mode.

Now, after automatic tuning  in Mach3  i got 35456.256steps/inch for X and Y axes and 75256.235 steps/inch for my Z-axes.

My speed at X and Y is now limited to 70IPM and for Z axis its more low.Unfortunately, on Gecko the Microstep values is not adjustable... but the drives works great:)

Somebody tell me can i increase the speed without change in Hardware?

If I convert the Steps/inch into Steps/mm can i able to increase the speed?

Change the kernel speed to 45Khz, but you may need a faster PC for that. Or, get a Smoothstepper.

Hi Gerry,
I am thinking of adding 1:1 pully ratio;).. I have read that Backlash compensation is not supported by Smoothstepper .. The next step is up-gradation of the Processsor:)

Fix the machine then no need to worry about backlash compensation
