DMC 1750 registration issues
« on: July 31, 2010, 09:34:10 AM »
Hi Guys,
I have an old Galil DMC-1750 card that I am trying to install but I am having problems.
I made the mistake of putting the card in before the software. :o :o :o

Here is where I am at the moment.
Fresh install of win2k including drive format.

go to add hardware and configure for the card.
Install galil smart term.

Power down and install card.
Reboot and the card looks good in device manager.
Open Smart term and it has a communications timeout error.
Open the Galil registry thingy and the card is there with the proper settings.
I have IRQ5 selected by jumper and no conflicts.
No address jumpers which is 1020 or 03fc. No conflicts there either.
I have dma1 selcted and I have tried dma0 also.

Any Ideas????
If the card is no good then that is fine but I would hate to toss it if it is just a configuration error.

We never have the time or money to do it right the first time, but we somehow manage to do it twice and then spend the money to get it right.

What revision is the card?

Hi Steve,
It is probably an early card since it only has a sticker that says 1750. Id doesn't have any rev number on it at all.

There are no jumpers installed anywhere on the board except for the one I installed to select the IRQ.

Further looking at it I found the following.
It shows up as a PnP card in smarterm.
I went into the appendix  and set the jumpers for Non-pnp and set the address for non pnp.
It again shows up properly in device manager.
It comes up with a serial number in smart term.
Still get the comm timeout.

JP7 is not labeled as to which one is for regisa so I tried all 3 possibilities.
pos 1 shows up in device manager as the device won't start. pos 2 and 3 are ok but it shows up in smart term as PNP.I still get the comm timeout.

If you get the serial number, then it is communicating at least a little bit and I would say that the card is not toast.  Toasted Galils do nothing at all.  Ask me how I know...  :)  Try posting on the Galil support forum.  Those old PnP cards are tricky.  In fact, the later cards had a "fix" that disabled PnP altogether.  But I suspect that there is a conflict somewhere.  ISA on W2K+ is not an easy gig.
