100 pin connector
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:44:31 PM »
Anyone know of a source for either cable or connectors for the 100 pin scsi connector used on some of the Galil cards?
I would prefer a solder  style connector because of some special things I am doing.

We never have the time or money to do it right the first time, but we somehow manage to do it twice and then spend the money to get it right.

That was a chase that didn't pan out. There was confusion between the SCSI-2 and MDB connectors. They use the same shell, but a different contact arrangement. Also the 100 pin connector is an IDC type only. It is best to buy the cables from Galil for this purpose.

Having way too much fun! Something must surely be wrong.

Galil sells adapter CB-1500-100 for $50 which gets you to an more common connector, but you still need their special 100 pin cable.

from Galil forums:

The part number for the PC-board mount 100-pin connector is AMP 2-178238-9

This connector is part of the Champ 050 series II manufactured by TE Connectivity (Tyco Electronics, formerly AMP). Digikey stocks what appears to be a mating connector, P/N 5175677-9-ND for about $16 in quantities of one. From what I can tell this is an IDC (insulation displacement connector) that should crimp onto a ribbon cable having the .050" or 1.27mm pitch. I don't know if the ribbon cable would cause problems with cross-talk, but it might be worth a try given the cost of cables from Galil.
What appears to be a mating ribbon cable is P/N MB100G-5-ND for $18.54 for 5 foot length or $34.44 for 10 foot length. So a 5 foot cable with 100 pin connectors on each end could be made for about $50.
