Advice sought on importing Autocad DXFs into Mach3.
« on: October 18, 2006, 07:00:45 PM »
If someone is able to consistently import Autocad created DXFs into Mach3 or Lazycam, I would much appreciate a few tips.  I have saved my simple drawings in all the available DXF formats (2004,2000,R14...) and none of them will import into Mach3 or Lazycam. (I get an error such as illegal argument or it will just stop)   I can create a DXF using one of the freeware CAD programs and they import fine.

There must be some setting that will allow the Autocad 2004 drawings to be imported but I can't fixure it out. My eyes are red from all the searching and reading on the web.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Try saving as R12 DXF.

Yeah, ditto that.  I have been able to save also in dxf R14 with success.  Had problems in the begining because the size/physical dimensions were HUGE due to another issue (the .jpg to .dxf converter made everything WAY to big and I had to scale my dxf files down (in ACAD ver 2002) in order to get LazyCam to do it's thing.  But, it does work.

Would you mind posting your dxf file so we can take a look (or have you done some basic di commands in ACAD to see exactly what size/scale you are dealing with?

I tried the R12 format and it seems to be working.  I will be using this on a plasma cutter to cut simple designs like hinge plates and brackets. So my application is pretty simple.

Since the R12 format works I will not post a sample.  No need to take up someone's time if my problem is solved.

I do not know very much about Autocad so the "di" command is not know to me.

Thanks for responding.  Hopefully I can do the same for someone.
