Yes, just need two spare inputs :)

The trouble is, once you have them, you will wonder how you ever did without them.  ;)

Great but how do you wire them up etc

Hi ,

I have an Orac and Colchester I intend fitting MPGs too.
I will fit 2 hand wheels so that it can be operated like a manual machine..but "fly by wire"

For the additional inputs required I have a Pokeys expension board (my Parallel port BOB has not enough spare IP)

I'll wire the quadrature o/p from the encoders to the Pokeys board then configure Mach / pokeys to do the clever stuf.

One thing here - I hope the pokeys firmware is fixed to accept the high pulse rate from a "whizzing" handwheel !
From the informationon the "pokey thread on this Mach forum" its looking good so time to see for myself.

You can "chop it off" but can't "chop it on"

If you are using the parallel port then all you do is connect the A channel to one spare input pin and the B to another and if possible take the power for the MPG from your breakout board as well. Then all you do is go to Config menu, Ports and Pins then Encoder/MPG page and set MPG1 up to the port and pin numbers you have chosen for your A and B channels. You can then go to the Functions Config menu and Calibrate MPG and go through the steps there, remembering to save before you exit.
