Motor is a 2kW varicon
Manual control by potentiometer, cnc control by Mach3

Dont now exactly what I am doing obviously

I take it you mean you set the speed on the potentiometer manually

If that is the case you don't need to set the spindle motor up in motor tuning as Mach3 isn't controlling the spindle.

Do you have a sensor to read the speed ?

Have you set up a spindle pulley in Mach3 with the MIn & Max the same as your motor ? under CONFIG, SPINDLE PULLEYS

I set the pot in manual only
When I switch over to cnc I need Mach to control spindle speed
There is a sensor on the head
Have set the spindle pulley as per manufacturer to 4

Hi Hood

Only thing I can seein the book about the motor.
Motor with rotary frequency converter infinitely variable with continuous rpm surveillance and clockwise/anticlockwise rotation
230V 50 Hz    8.6A    2 kW    0-5000 U/min.
Was on to Pro Machine tools but not much info only that the motor tuning and set up on Mach is what is used.
As I said confused with the step entry and velocity. I really need to know what the step should be to get started as step and velocity entries make a huge difference.
I can get it set to run at say 1000 rpm but when you go to 500 rpm depending on the entry it is up or down.

To control the spindle via Mach3 you need to feed it a voltage, this in the main is 10volts

When the VFD has 10 Volts the motor runs full speed when it has 5 volts it runs half speed & so on

Mach3 generates that 0-10 volts by using a phantom motor in motor tuning SPINDLE

These pulses then go to a speed control device that generates the 10 volts

Something like this http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=58

Phil

I have sound logic boards and Gecko drives

Ok I got it fixed
Deleted all Mach3 software and downloaded new software.
Works but will open a new post
Cheers

Just updated from 3.042-036 to 040 on the lathe, true spindle reads 36 for any speeds set on the MDI using M3S*********. Using a tach0 the spindle speeds checked appear correct

Just placed a 1nf capacitor across the spindle speed index input on the breakout board . The true speed now shows the correct speed? and the tacho reads the same speed.

Set index debounce to zero also.

Index debounce not working ? will have to get a smooth stepper.
