Computer hanging with Mach3
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:31:41 AM »
Dear Sir

My computer often hangs when I use with Mach3 CNC controller. My computer specification are:

Processor - Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
Memory - DDR 512 MB (333)
HDD - 80GB
Graphic - MX400 (64 MB)

My machine is 3 axis Milling. I use 60kHz kernal speed. I decrease kernal speed to 45kHz, but I face the same problem. There is no spindle speed control (only relays on/off). What should I do? Do I need to change my PC? I hope someone can give me some advice.

Best Regards,
High Texh Key

Hi High Tech Key,

If you are switching your spindle on / off with a relay which does not have adequate arc suppression (across the contacts) then the noise spike generated may well crash your computer.

SSR's such as this one, switch at the 'mains zero crossing point' and produce much less noise. They can be driven from your existing relay and just require a small power source.
