Harrison Quality ?
« on: February 14, 2010, 03:00:14 PM »
Anyone across the pond, or anywhere, familiar with the degree of quality of Harrison machines ?
This is a 13 x 24.
Thanks for any input,
Russ

Older ones were decent enough for what they are, newer ones not so great but still ok I suppose, definitely not in the CVA or DSG class of machines, probably on a par with Colchester which is probably nothing to boast about ;D

sort of what I suspected. The older ones do have that "look" of quality where the later ones have a Taiwan look about them. (like the one above)
Also see the 600Group from over there.
Colchester/Harrison/Storm/Tornado and CNC Plus lathes.  Looks to be more job shop stuff...not high production.
All built in one place ?
The place I was working at 4 years ago bought a 13x40 ish 600 Clausing manual lathe for the tool room. It was fair and quite fragile. I think it had STUDENT on it. Within a year, the students destroyed it.
Just looking around, wanting a REAL lathe one day.
Thanks,
Russ

Yes, nowadays they are all made by Dalian in China for the 600 group.
