Retrofit/Upgrade
« on: September 21, 2006, 11:39:15 PM »

I am looking at this software as a way to get rid of the OLD NC controllers we have on our production lathes.  They are vertical lathes with large spindles (36") and heights around 40 ".  Also most have 4 position tool changers but there are some 6 position ones also.  I am wondering if there are any negatives to using a PC and Mach software to help us out?

IT can be done but the hard part is going to be writign the code for the toolchanger and so on... And you would need to have a PLC to get you the IO that you need for the toolchanger. Othere then that it is about the same as doing ay other lathe.

Not so much worried about the different chuncks of code.  I can leech most of that from our existing machines.  I'm just wondering if anyone has looked at using Mach to replace an old controller like a Mark 2000?

Deideshiem vertical lathe?  We have four of those that could use an upgrade also.  Will have to try to work together on this.

Nice looking little lathe.  Will have to get some pics of the junk we have here.  Most are vertical lathes with 30" spindle chucking and 40" of vertical travel.  We mostly turn brake drums for semi-trucks and big stuff like that.
