Optimizing the code.
« on: January 06, 2010, 11:02:28 AM »
Is there a way to optimize the G code?  I have pockets Begin cut and it seems that I make one cut in this area move to another make one cut and so on gradually making the round to get back to the first area to make the second cut.  You would think that once in an area you would cut all you can prior to moving out to another.  That would save a lot of Z up and down and moving time.  I know this is not a function of Mach3 it only does what the code tell is to do.  One of the files I am using is made in Vcarve Pro and it seems the code makes the Machine Work overtime to get the job done.  There must be some way to optimize the code I just do not know what that way is.

Norm,

As you rightly say Mach does what the code says, so you should ask on the Vectric forum as i am sure you will get a quicker answer there

Some of the CAM programmes I have seen you can order the toolpaths manually but they are top end ones and also very expensive. I have never used V Carve so dont know if it has that capability but as Phil rightly says the Vetric forum will probably get you a quicker answer and if its not possible to manually choose the order they may have some tips so that the auto selection works better.
