Newbie X Axis Problem
« on: October 12, 2009, 07:47:07 PM »
Hello Forum,

I have just setup my first machine and am having a problem I cannot figure out. The machine came with the computer loaded with Mach3 and Mastercam X. I created a basic block of wood with an extruded design in Solidworks and imported it into Mastercam X. The first problem I have is after loading the model into Mach3, it does not show it on the display, but lists the code. The second problem, is no matter what I try, the X Axis only moves up. I have reviewed the code and everything appears correct. It starts at 0.0 and does a retract of .25, and then starts machining up! The code plainly calls for a negative transition after the retract. Does this sound like a hardware or software problem? I swapped controllers with the same result. Any advice or info anyone could provide would be most appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Wayne

Sounds like you have the axis reversed, change it from config menu then Homing and Limits.

For the toolpath check on the diagnostics page and see if it is disabled.

On reading again I am wondering if the axis reverses via the jog keys, if not then it is likely either a config error with the Dir pin setting or a wiring error.

Hey Hood,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried what you suggested and no joy. I created a test code z-axis with ups and downs and the controller is sending all code as up. It is almost like the encoder can only turn one way! I guess I will have to get into the wiring ans see if there is a problem there. I do not receive any errors in Mach3.

Thanks again for your time.

When you jog via the keyboard does it jog both ways?
Can you attach your xml please.

Hood,

After further troubleshooting and controller swapping, it does appear that using the keyboard jogging feature, the controller is sending both + and - values to the motor as + only, forcing the motor to only move in the positive direction. Does that make sense? Now I just have to learn the wiring for Parker Zeta controllers and motors. Thank you for your help.

Sounds like you do not have the  Dir wired correctly or possibly you have the drive configured for CW/CCW rather than Step/Dir.

Hello Hood,

You were right. There were a few things out of wack, for some reason. I found a hard wire broken and the configuration of pins was wrong in MACH3. It now runs like it should. Thank you so much for helping me look in the right direction.

Cheers,

Wayne
