« on: June 24, 2009, 09:04:51 AM »
Hi guys,

Has anyone used oris using an Express card parallel port for a laptop without a parallel port. Have you had any success or do they not work. Will a usb to parallel port cable work? is there anything else that ca work with a laptop without a parallel port?

Thanks Gents.

Ron.

Thanks Rich,

Does it work in conjunction with Mach3 or a stand alone software package?

SmoothStepper takes the place of two parallel ports and also gives you an additional 6 Inputs.

Its an external motion controller that connect to the computer via USB and integrates to Mach via a plugin, it can pulse up to 4MHz and can leaves the computer to concentrate on the trajectory planning etc.

Yep, have them on all of my machines :)
Jeff Birt may have some in stock  http://soigeneris.com/Warp9.aspx  , presume you are in the USA?
If in Ozz or NZ then try Peter Homann, he may have them in stock. http://www.homanndesigns.com/store/

Nope, did have a few issues right at the start but that was because I wasone of the  Beta testers and it wasnt for sale at that time. There are a few issues with it still which I hear will be getting looked at shortly when the new Mach rev comes out. These things are no backlash, slaved homing and a few slight problems with FRO and slaved homing.
