Stepper motor Speed.
« on: June 22, 2009, 10:54:55 PM »
 ??? Hi there,

I have just finished my CNC router and wired up the electronics, keling steppers ,controller and C10 breakout board. steppers will move with keys and typed code OK. but I can't get any speed out of them. I have at the moment motor tune set at 200 and 1 microstep. I can't see what I am missing to make the steppers run properly.
Thanks
best regards
Bernie Byers

Hi, what do you mean by " but I can't get any speed out of them "

What is the maximum feed rate at which they run.

You should provide more info about, lead screw or pulley ratio.

Have you calculated the step per unit in the motor tuning screen

Thanks for your reply Jeff,
The motors are only turning over at about 20-30 revs.velocity set at 100 and accel 90
direct coupling to lead screw. Lead screw pitch 1.75. Calculated steps per unit as for lead screw at 114.28 now have set it at 200 to see if the steppers will run faster.Have one motor sitting on bench to check.Motors are keling KL23H286-20-8B bipolar parallel.

Try dropping your acceleration down to 20 or 10. Also suggest you microstep at 1/8, of course you'll need to change
the steps per unit if you micro step.

Thanks again Rich still can't get the revs. much slower with the 1/8
setting, probably something simple I haven't done in mach3 setup.
I had you e-maill notification at 3.01 pm. (this one) and then two more 3.38
pm and 10.20pm can't find the last two posts or who they are from
All the best
Bernie
I have sent this message again as I had a note say it wasn't sent.

Hi, try to increase the step/units at 914.285 instead of 114.28

Also verify that your setting are in mm

If you use the 1/8 step for the driver, you should need 1600 steps ( 200 X 8 ) to turn leadscrew one revolution so you should need 914.286 steps to go 1mm.

Just my idea, I'm not an expert.

Jeff, good luck
