Using Mach to control XY stage
« on: August 17, 2006, 04:22:41 PM »
Hello to all,

I am building a simple XY stage for positioning/passing samples under a high intensity microwave beam. I need ultra fine control, moving the sample at extremely slow speeds (perhaps even as slow as 1/64" per minute). I also need to ba able to define a particular path for the stage to follow. I am guessing the best way to do this is with some sort of cnc type control.

Would Mach software be good for this? I don't need to do any machining, just positioning/path follwoing. Can a mach screen/interface be simplified to do that?
Also, can Mach drive steppers as slow as I mentioned? (Note: I am looking into a gecko or xylotex controller)

Thanks for your time!
