Wiring for Mach 3 to Compumotor M83-135 controller

Hello,

I have a compumotor M83-135 Controller that I would like to use for a project but I an having troubles with the wiring. The main problem is that the controller has two wires for step and direction each. I was wondering if it was possible to use this type of controller with mach 3. The manual lists the pinout as shown below..

(Pulse Source)                (Driver)
Chassis Ground           ---   NC
Step output (+)         ---   B
Step Return (-)           ---   D
Direction output (+)     ---  A
Direction return (-)       ---  E
Shutdown output (+)  ---  C
Output Return (-)        ---  F

The letters on the left are just reference for the pinout on the driver. The part that is confusing to me is the returns for each signal.
I have also found a link to the manual listed below. The wiring diagram is on page 19

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Jack

Step output(+)---------[ 
Direction output(+)----[----- Connect, All to + 5 volt's.
Shutdown output(+)---[

Step Return(-)---------Step pin in Mach.
Direction return(-)----Direction pin in Mach.

Output Return(-)-------Gnd or to Enable Output pin in Mach. 

Should do what you need.

This didn't do anything as far as I could tell. I was using an external source for 5v don't know if that makes a differance. what would the config screen need to be, I'm assuming since 5v is being fed in the signal would be active lo, I've tried both ways and even tried running the pins the other way and run active hi. if it helps when the shutdown output and output return are supplied with 5v the motor turns off, (loses holding power)
