GS2 drive and modbus
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:00:52 PM »
Hi all

is there anyone out there using a GS2 drive over modbus on the pc serial port? if so, could you let me know how to configure the connection.

i can connect to a dl06 and read the inputs and turn on the output and coils, so i know the connection works. it is probably only some parameters to fix.

You will have to use a rs232 to rs485 converter to set up with mach or drive software the converter from automation direct is called an FAISOCON last I new they were about $100or so
and make your own cables with RJ45 connector don't mistake that 4 Ethernet very bad 4 PC'S modbus uses 15+volts ,But that means you can power the converter from the modbus port on the drive

UPDATE

Sorry about the bad info on the drive the modbus port is a RJ22 plug not RJ45 but you will still need the 232 to 485 conveter to talk to mach

unlike the GS1, the GS2 has a dip switch to toggle between RS232 and RS485 communication, are you sure i need an additional converter?

If you can toggle between 232 and 485 yes there is no need for a converter
