Motor relay with Gecko G540
« on: March 31, 2009, 02:22:02 PM »
Has anyone who is using a Gecko G540 with Mach 3 implemented a relay to start and stop your spindle motor?  I had one configured while I was using a XYLotex board, using a Crydom D2425 solid state relay but I can't get it to work with the G540.  It's connected as is described in the Gecko documentation but nothing seems to work.  Is there something in Mach 3 that I may be missing?  The Spindle relays are left unchecked (enabled) in Mach 3 for M3 clockwise and M4 counter-clockwise with Output #1 set to pin 17.  Thanks in advance....

check the voltage at the relay and see if it is changing when you try and start the spindle. Also check that there is voltage on the motor  side of the relay.

The power goes into the relay on one side, spindle hooks up to relay.  Then on the switch side,  a wire from the BOB (what ever pin number) goes to the relay and a wire goes back to the ground on the BOB.  Computer sends 5 volts to the Pin, triggers relay, spindle gets power.

Have you checked to see if  the voltage getting to the relay? If its not check back further to see if its changing at the computer port.

The Gecko G540 has sinking type outputs, that is they supply the common (ground) when switched. Look at the GECKO G540 documentation: http://geckodrive.com/upload/G540%20REV3%20MANUAL.pdf , page 3 shows how to hook up relays.

Hope that helps,
