encoder resolution checking

ive purchased a mazak servo motor but cant work out the encoder resolution accurately. (required for the drive im using)
is this possible to check by interfacing to mach3 encoder inputs? if so any settings or a how to would help. thanks
(i can configure pins etc and make wiring connections)
if its not broken yet, fit more gadgets!

If you have an oscilisope you could hook up a chanel to it and rotate the motor at a known speed and get the pulse rate that way.
 If you dont then hooking up to Mach and zero the encoder DRO and rotate the motor 1 turn and you should get a reading in the DRO. Never tried that so I am unsure how Mach is expecting things but would think best to set the Count unit to 1 and see, if the reading is exceptionally low then you maybe multiply that by 4.

The encoder may however not be an incremental one, are there any markings on it?

no z and minus z?

incremental? absolute? or waste of time? lol

im using a yaskawa drive which is looking for a z + and z-
worked out the ppr = 2500

just got to work out if i can get a z pulse from it now
if its not broken yet, fit more gadgets!

C is your index pulse
U V W seems to suggest it may also have some sine wave output, possibly for commutation?

motor is yamakazi mazak
encoder is sanyo denshi

no part numbers apart from motor 0930 252a
its a 1kw presume the 930 part of the number
25 i presume is encoder 2500 ppr
wondering if the a stands for absolute, as i cant find a z pulse

the u v w are long pulses, presume comutation with phases u v w
if its not broken yet, fit more gadgets!

I would expect maybe 6 connections to a resolver but a pic would probably help identify if it were.

Also any numbers on the motor? Presumining its a Yamazaki rather than Yamakazi? Yamazaki is European Mazak I think.
