General Mach Discussion / Start, stop, reverse and stop again
« on: November 28, 2012, 04:35:25 PM »
Hi,

I will have a huge lot of small stainless pipe (3/8 X .030 wall  X 0.938 bend radius)) to bend at 180 degree,

I've built a small bender and would like to automate the process a bit.

What I want to do is :

1: Activate the air cylinder to clamp the pipe to the bending die.

2: push start

3:The bender bend the pipe to 180 degree + spring back

4: Hit the limit switch and stop (adjustable)

5: Rewind the bender to the home limit switch and stop

I have a spare 3 phases motor (with worm gear, high torque) and a VFD

Would like to know if it can be done only with the VFD or I would have to use Mach3 to control the bender.

Thanks for any help,

Jeff

I don't think it's a really good idea.

What will happen is the tool will flex the gantry upward until it can't flex anymore and then it will take a good chunck of material and probably jam the machine.

I'm 100% sure that if you think of something, it will work.

You are probably the most talented guy on this forum.

Appreciate your time helping others.

Could it be that too much current is drawn by the break out board from the parallel port.

Do you have a PCI board to test?

It can crash the computer.

Try to reverse signal from the switch config menu.

Try active low or high for the X and Y axis.

Just a guess.

Hi BR549.

This absolutely what I was talking about.

Where can I get a copy of that wizard.

Still avilable?

Thanks for your help.

Jeff

By the way, wanted to add a linear scale for the Z axis, could I use this as a stop or program a depth limit in Mach3 and it will stop when it reach it.

Or I could put a limit switch on the Z axis, could be on the wheel for the manual feed.
