Hi Hood

Yes optical home switch.

Your right about the lathe screen  ;D maybe someone who is using it "Standard Mill Screen" can chime in

Might have to go and investigate the screens section

Just having another look at lathe

Would the button SET HOME X on the lathe screen be the equivalent of REF X on the mill screen ?

General Mach Discussion / New to Lathe

OK so i have been using Mill for a while and i am close to setting up my lathe.

I am testing the ports and pins side of things not connected to a machine but ive had the motors running off the machine

I am using an index pulse card for homing on the lathe but to be fitted on the mill later so this is my first experience of them.

I say SET HOME POSITION the digits increase i activate the pulse.

I then zero the axis then move away by MDI

Then i say go to home. But it just moves back to Zero the index pulse is ignored

This is not the case on the mill it hits the switch to home

Using a SS the ports are setup on port 3

Thanks
Phil

SmoothStepper USB / MPG on port 3 problem
« on: May 04, 2009, 05:00:00 AM »
I have some movement using the MPG

But only forward and it is erratic

The pins on port 3 SS are marked 1 to 6

1 to 3 are inputs

4 to 6 are encoders

So that makes 9 pins numbered 1 to 6  ???

Any other help appreciated in setting the ports and pins correctly on port 3

Thanks
Phil

I'm not in the big league yet either that's why I'm here too.

I shall no doubt be shot down in flames but routers generally do not work at high precision, for that you need a milling machine.

Have you access to a DTI you will then be able to see by putting the DTI on the spindle and pushing on each axis how easy it is to move out of position.

THIS IS DONE WITH THE SPINDLE OFF.

The only way to confirm is to check this way.

The other test is to remove the motors disconnect the screws and manually push the axis this way you can feel for any binding/crabbing.

In my case i use a mill is is s****e in quality but by fettling it is now unbelievably accurate and i did know it would be s****e BTW

I believe all your troubles are mechanical

Hi Mark sorry to hear your woes.

No one has mentioned your machine, if there are mechanical issues then that is what is going to determine the accuracy.

This is where a skilled operator on a manual machine comes in he/she can adjust on the fly.

Maybe some pics and specs of your machine would help

PoKeys / Re: potentiometer voltage

Hi Borisz

Is it OK to use a separate supply of 3.3v for the pots

I use a PC power supply for my 5 & 12v but they also can supply 3.3v so this seems ideal ?

Thanks

Hi Peter

I have just been through a similar experience, problem with my PC, had to build another, transfer went perfectly, and i did it as follows.

Copied the old Mach3 directory over to the new PC

On the new PC i installed Mach3 as per normal
