LazyTurn / Re: LazyTurn

You should find this version much more robust, and accurate, not to mention faster. Radius/Diameter is taken into account in posting as well.

 Anyway, have fun,

Art

I tried the latest version with the crosshead dxf file in my earlier post using a .060 grooving tool,  Pullout clearance of .1, stock clearance of .01 and depth per pass of .05 and Lazyturn locks up.  It draws a yellow path outline before locking up.  In my windows task manager it says the LazyTurn.exe is using 99% fo the CPU.  If I choose a .125" grooving tool it does not lock up.  If I choose a depth per pass of .025 with the .125" grooving tool, it locks up.  If I use the .060 grooving tool and set the z offset for 0 and the stock diameter at 1.5" it works.

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: MachTurn wizards

The first one that comes to mind is the OD arc 3 that we already discussed.  On the finish pass it cuts right through the arcs.

Ron, I talked with you at the York show.  I realize that the wizards in MachTurn were not done by Newfangled Solutions, but if you could ever get a chance to go through them and fix the bugs, those of us that are trying to use them would be very grateful.   The may have to be done in conjunction with Brian fixing the MachTurn code, the two may be related.

General Mach Discussion / Re: MachTurn tool table

Having just messed with toolchange macros, I'd be willing to bet you'd HAVE to issue an M6 before any changes would take place.  But you can do that through MDI.

Regards,
Ray L.

I'll have to play with it.  My M6 macro sends the carriage to the tool change position.  I'm curious what would happen when I then hit cycle start.

Front tools only.  Now that I am using MachTurn more and finding all kinds of problems, I surprised you guys had not screamed more.

A related questions:  If I am in the middle of a part and hit feed hold, then measure the part, can I update the tool table to adjust for part dimensions, exit the tool table, and go back hit cycle start and have the new tool setting take effect?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / MachTurn tool table

Where is the data for the tool table located?  I have spent about 6 hours in the last week re-doing the tool offsets for my 8 position tool turret.  For some reason as I change from the G-code screen to the mdi screen, Mach scrambles my tool table (version 3.0042.008 the only version that seems to work, the lock down version will not run my VB scripts).  I need to copy the file as soon as I finish setting up my table which takes me about an hour for the 8 tools.

Looking over my tooling, I found that the only tool I had long enough was a grooving tool that had an insert of .060 instead of the 1/8".  My 1/8" grooving tool only has a reach of 1.8".  I went ahead and ran the code anyway.  I only had one gotcha in that I forgot to change the reverse arcs on my computer that runs the CHNC.  I caught it as it started to cut an arc the wrong way.  I was amazed that it did not break the tool.  I managed to save the part.  The only section affected by the narrower tool was the top radius.  I use the MDI screen to made up for the narrow tool and then finished it off with a file.  Thanks for the code Graham.

Try this version :-

The code looks really nice.  I should have time today to try it out.  What program do you use?

Hi Vince,

what feed, speed, depth of cut & finishing allowance do you want and I will do you some code using your .125 tool, is it a ball end or a square end ?.

Graham

It's square, a grooving tool.  It's cutting steel so I am guessing 100 SFPM, and 1 IPM feed.  Since I am cutting sideways with a grooving tool I was going to keep the depth of cut around .025".

Thanks

Nice stuff.  The hopes of making a clock and some day a pocket watch are what got me started in this whole CNC thing.  Until I get a 4th axis, I think I'm still years away.
