Tangent Corner / Re: Drilling a Square Hole.
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:32:49 PM »
Drilling a square hole is nothing new. I've done it 50 years ago, same principle, only thing different, we used a hardened guide plate clamped to the top of the work piece. The cutter was 3 flute like in the video, which was mounted in a floating holder. The cutter followed the profile in the bushing. the flutes were not sharp. only the end did the cutting. Still have some bits in my toolbox.

I agree, you need the power over the speed.

Most don't realize how much precision machining goes into a revolver, or any other gun for that matter, but scaling down is another ball game.
Your doing good Rich, take your time and don't mess it up..LOL.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motherboard Recommendations

Any mobo with 2ghz processor and 1gb ram will do fine for mach, for win7.
Xp requires less, I'd go the xp route.

General Mach Discussion / Re: how to bore 90 degrees
« on: September 22, 2010, 01:05:01 AM »
Here's a pic of the angle head from a Rottler. First build a spindle adaptor. U need some miter gears , sprockets , chain , and bearings to suit the size of your head. Don't make it any longer than needed. Thats all I can tell you without knowing what kind of machine you have.
If it was me , I'd farm  out the engine block.

A precise angle boring head is a time consuming project. How often will you be using it ?

Main bearing bores MUST be finish  LINE honed.

Tom, mach will run fine on a 800mhz processor. See if you can get a copy of XP LITE. It's a stripped down copy of xp. without all the extra crap. Dedicate this pc just for mach, and your good to go.

Rich , as far as Dells, they are fine when they work, but the mb, are not compatible with any other case's, they have different plug ins. and I hate Dells cases.   >:(

No used Dell is worth 400.00  .LOL
Find some thing else used with 1 ghz proc. But , not an Emachine.
XP works fine. You should find something for about 200.
