MaxNC 10 on Waveform - No Y-axis movement
« on: December 13, 2008, 05:12:36 PM »
Hi all,

Enabled max-nc 10 wave drive.

I have x control and z control but no y control? What am I overlooking?

-Stepper speed set to match x/z axis
- I noticed that pins/pots - motors have no effect, other then enable disable. Alll 3 axis are enabled. I assume this is normal from other threads

- I also switched back to Maxnc control program on my old pentium and y-axis worked fine. I also swapped wiring to check the stepper and it worked fine. So its not the motor.

Any help would be great.

David,
Since the x & z work, and you have swapped the one of those for a  check of the non working y axis,
suggests to me that you don't have the pins defined properely for the y axis. When in MACH go to:
- CONFIG>PORTS & PINS >MOTOR OUPUTS> enable y and check pins / active settings are correct
- CONFIG>MOTOR TUNING> check that you have done y tuning

If the step and direction signal is generated  anad confirmed out of the PP then next step may be wiring.
Repost if that dosn't fix it.

DAVID,
Did you get a manual for the MAX CN. The comments made in my other posting pertain to using MACH 3.
I don't know anything about the Max CN software, and after a quick site check, they only mentioned MACH2.
Since they have custom screens i was just wondering if you are are using the lathe screen for the mill.

Hi, David, Rich

I'm Thinking:

Max NC uses ether Quadrature or Rollover (Wave) on Most of there Drives, If Stepper, Max NC 10 "Checked" on Config, Ports & Pins Page.

Then It's as follows, Port's and Pin's settings have No Affect on the settings Just Motor Tuning Settings for the most part.

You may need to Re-Wire some Pin's to check it out/get it Working.

"Z" axis pin's 2,3,4,5,
"X" axis pin's 6,7,8,9,
"Y" axis pin's 1,14,16,17,

It uses all the output pin's so I don't think it has an Enable pin from Mach3.

In Config, Ports & Pins, Output's Page, No pin's selected.

In Config, Motor Tuning, Set Step & Dir. Pulse's to 5

Then Continue with Motor Tuning and Such.....

SEQUENCE For Z Pin's

Z | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Pin's

A | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0
B | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0
C | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0
D | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1

SEQUENCE One Dir. A,B,C,D,A,B,C..... or Other Dir. D,C,B,A,D,C,B......

Let us Know, Hope this Helps get you Going.

Chip,

Just to clarify, there are 8 steps per sequence. This is a half step pattern.

SEQUENCE For Z Pin's

Z | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Pin's

A | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0
B | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0
C | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0
D | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0
E | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0
F | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1
G | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1
H | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1

Hi, Darek

That may be true, Didn't remember all the "fine print" for full and half step modes or which one Max NC used.

Thanks, Chip

Thanks for tips everyone.

I'm still working on the issue. I'll test the pin outputs tomorrow.

I still have no idea why it works on the original maxnc software and not this.

David,

If you are using the same PC and connecting cable it looks like Mach is not outputting the Y axis. I was configuring a MaxNC CL profile before and lost the quadrature output. I started a new profile and the output was restored. You may try reloading Mach also if the previous suggestion does not help.

I've tried the machine with a second PC to eliminate the problem. Both have no y control.

What version of Mach3 are you using? I will load it up and see if I have the same results.
