motor tuning stepper motors
« on: July 04, 2006, 12:16:51 PM »
i have been reading the manual and looking at the post i just want to see if i have this right  i am running a rack and pinion on my plasma table i have a 1" pinion  I'm using geckos and 3 to 1 planetary gear heads
I'm not sure but  but i have come up with 1910 steps per inch I'm assuming a unit is a inch from other post. not to sound flippin dumb but do i just stick 1910  in the steps per box.(in the motor tuning window) the velocity and acceleration i guess i will mess with once i get this figured out.
I'm running 270oz motors at 24volts (homeshopcnc)will this make Mach run all my code to the right ratio

Maybe your Geckos are set to 1/2 step mode?  I don't have Geckos but I understand there are DIP switches somewhere that set the mode.

You also might want to try using the Axis Calibration feature on the settings page- it works good.  After you have your steps per set, then you can mess around with velocity and acceleration till you get max speed without missing steps.

im using the g201 im sorry i forgot to mention that the 10x step driver  so you think that if the motor has 2000 steps  im pretty much right with the 1910 steps a inch with a 1" pinion and a 3 to 1 gear head

I ran the numbers and it looks like 1909.86steps per inch... Are you sure it is a 1" Dia and not Rad :(
