Just ordered a SmoothStepper, some questions
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:56:23 AM »
Hi,
i did it an ordered a SmoothStepper.

I got just a few questions.

- How can i do backlash compensation, will that be implemented?
- i have a Parker ZX AC Servo drive, does anyone know if there is a way to Control it with SmootStepper/Mach3? I Want to use an AC Servo as spindle drive.

Thank You
Adrian

Backlash is not implemented yet, Greg is working on spindle sync and SoftLimits and I think Backlash is next on the list.
If your Parker drive is Step/Direction input then it will be easy, if not then you may manage with some of the Step/Dir to Analogue converters.

Just did a quick google for the Parker and it certainly looks like it accepts Step/dir inputs so you will have no problems there :)

By the way, whitch version of Mach3 should i get?

Concerning the Backlash correction, i thougt Mach3 added the additional steps to compensate it. Will this be different with SmoothStepper?

Thank You

Use Ver3.041.
I am using the test version 3.042.008 and it seems very good but it is still under testing so maybe best to avoid it for now.
The Backlash needs to be done in the plugin if you use any external motion control device so the backlash in Mach is only for the Parallel Port. I have been testing the threading in the SS and it is very good now and I think when Greg gets back from the show it will be on general release. I think Backlash is next on the list to do so hopefully for the people wanting it it wont be too long, it will depend however on how hard Greg finds it is to implement in the Plugin, it might end up easy to do or might end up fairly difficult and time consuming.

Hi,
finally got my SmoothStepper and it works perfectly :-)

Does anyone know when Backlash Compensation is planned to be realized?

My Parker doesn't have step/dir inputs, but i am figuring out a way to use one of the programmable inputs to simulate it. Will be a little tricky but i think it will work.
