Install an i/o card in your PC and disable the onboard LPT in CMOS setup. i/o cards are cheap.

I think it is a driver problem. The ports and pins led's on the diagnostic screen do not change.  I cant seem to get the xml to attach. I sent it to Scott at support and he says there is no problem with it. What should the driver detail in the device manager be? My driver files show to be C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\parport.sys provided by Microsoft.

No printers. I loaded XP Pro with no printer drivers installed.

Have you tried uninstalling the port from device manager and rebooting XP so that it rediscovers and reloads the drivers?

It is a printer port after all. Shut down Mach and try printing through it. That should test almost all of the signals.

Update time. I suspected a problem in my operating system since the pc had slowed way down and sometimes would not shutdown properly. I fomated and reloaded XP pro. I then downloaded Mach 3 and reloaded my xml file and liscense. Now my inputs are woking properly.  . My new breakout board came yesterday so I installed it. The dro's are working but I still have no outputs. The ports and pins current state shows no outputs.

disconect the PP cable and put a voltmeter on the Dir pin and a ground pin of the port and jog the axis one way then the other, if you see the voltage change 0-5v then the port is OK, if you dont then looks like the port is bad (assuming all settings are correct in Mach)
