My servos kinda chug when trying to cut circles
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:37:43 PM »
I am not sure what settings I could have wrong, but the servo's aren't aren't moving smoothly when cutting arc's( Kinda makes a chuging sound).  Is there a setting that smooths things out?

Everybody seems obsessed with circles.

Now are you cutting a circle using G2 or G3 command or have you got a cad and cam program that make your cicle up from lots and lots of little lines.

G2 and G3 are catered for on Mach, and smoothly alter the acceleration and decelation of the axis is sequence.

With lots and little straight lines, Mach has to stop after each line, calculate the next line and carry on.

You can smooth this out by selecting CV mode in config, but cutting the circle in G2 or G3 is preferable.
Not me driving the engine - I'm better looking.

I already had CV enabled,  I have been using DeskNC and it seems to not have this problem. I have run the same file on both systems with DeskNC being smooth and Mach 3 being jerky , I like Mach3 alot, but I need to get Mach 3 set-up to cut smooth arcs without manually editing the GCODE.   I cut out BBQ grates that can have 200 pierces/unit and are very intricate and full of arcs. Is LazyCam the only CAM software that will produce a TAP file or is there one  better at handling arcs? Thanks Oskie

Plasma table I assume.
Never tried the following.....might try it if you haven't already.
Not much explanation there....part of being "Proprietary" I guess.
Good luck Oskie,
