Drilling code

Hello,

I am an experienced machinist and just want to know can you put in minus R values while using canned cycles for drilling.

So if you are drilling holes on the surface i.e. 'Z' zero you put in the following for example G81 Z-10 R2.(This is metric not inch figures).

This feeds down to Z depth of -10mm from Z zero starting at 2mm above surface.

Now if I had a pocket that was 40mm deep and needed several holes in the bottom face can you put a minus R value so it does not have to feed from the top Z zero surface.

Example G81 Z-43 R-38.

This rapids down to 2mm above surface of pocket base and then feeds from here to drill through base wall at 43mm depth.

I have worked with various verticle and horizontal CNC milling machines and they have this feature.

If this can't be done, I will carry on by programming each drilled position without a canned cycle for drilling.

Thanks

Mel

Yes, seems like you can,  I have just checked by doing it in the bolt circle  wizard and it seems to work fine in the simulation.

Hi there,

Yep, it does work on simulation. I will try this tomorrow morning on the machine.

Being in the UK its nearly time for bed for me.

Thanks

Bedfordshire, I'm 45miles from London.

Smack in the middle of Milton Keynes, Luton and Aylesbury.

Yep.

Probably the best one out the lot.

I have seen others but none as informative as this one.

Just need more time to post more, I am developing a new CNC milling machine from scratch, hopefully might be able to sell it once done.

Currently designing high power control box. This will be available soon.

Sounds interesting, keep us informed how things are going and maybe post some info and pics in the ShownTell section.
