spindle problem mach3 mill and cnc4pc c6 board
« on: May 01, 2008, 01:55:44 PM »
i finally got my spindle wired with a vfd and 3hp motor.  i went to try it out and after some fiddling got it working.  i can vary the speed and i can go forward and reverse however the spindle doesn't shut off when i program an M5, M2, or M0 command.  it will slow down but the vfd still runs at 12hz.  i don't understand why this isn't shutting down.  i have spindle setup on port 16 for step and port 17 for direction.  i'm not using output 1 and 2 i'm using the spindle setup under the motor connections.  any help is much appreciated.

thanks

jerry

Have you checked the parameters of the VFD, might be that when its told to switch off its set for 12Hz?

Hood,

thanks for the post, but yes i have checked the vfd parameters and they are correct.

Hello Jerry,
Is the Minimum PWM set to "0" ?
Here's a couple clips from the manuals.
Good Luck,

the C6 board from cnc4pc tells you to use the Step/Dir motor option not the PWM motor option.  i will go through it again today and see if i can find a problem with the VFD settings.

I have the C14 board but haven't hooked it up yet. It is quite different than the C6 you have. I assumed that they worked in similar fashion. (that's what I get for assuming :D) Looks like the C14 is no longer available, nothing on the CNC4PC website about it now. Plenty of docs. on yours though, I'll go through it...I will need one next time around.
Wish you luck with yours,
RC

I thought i would post the final resolution here so everyone can see.  ultimately i found this problem after putting a scope on the input.  the signal wire from the parallel port was picking up noise and triggering the VFD at around 12 hz and this wasn't allowing the spindle to shut down.  i ended up putting a capacitor across the input to the board to ground to filter it.

Great that you are sorted and even better that you have come back to let us know what the problem was, its good when people do this as it may help more people than you think.
Thanks
