Taig and Mach 3
« on: March 25, 2008, 12:54:42 PM »
Ok I am about to pull what lil hair I have left out.
I just purchased a Taig cnc mill and Mach3. Got it all put together last night. My prob is I bought the thing off ebay from DeepGroove1. He wont return calls or emails and I dont have specs on the stepper motors. But I manually counted 200 steps per revolution on the steppers. With Taigs 1/2x20 screws and 200 steps per revolution that gives me 4000 steps per inch (which is what this is set for) for the motor tuning. I set my table to the left, out and up and reference all home with machine coord button lit. I went in and changed my homing limits to 16.00-0.00 for x, 8.00-0.00 for y and 0.00-9.00 for z. I set my motor tuning and saved for each axis.
When I jog the machine it is not showing actual travel. The travel its showing is way exagerated. And because of this is giving me a machine out of normal and cant set the soft limits button. I tried setting it to Sherline 1/2 step mode. Same thing.
The steppers have 4 wires and no markings whatsoever. So I cant figure out what the heck is goin on.
Im not a newb when it comes to computers or cnc. But this one is startin to get to me

Well I set motor tuning to 16000 per unit and checked travel. I am now getting 1/2" of travel when the dro shows 1" of travel. So I take it I should set units to 32000 per unit.

Yep, 32000 per unit makes her work like a charm now. When the dro say 1", its actually one inch.

One thing I notice is that when u hit "go to z" it moves the x and y axis first, then the z. Is there any way to get it to move z axis first then the rest?
