FRO-M3Turn-Doesn't seem right
« on: February 20, 2008, 11:09:09 PM »
Hello Everybody,
Is the FRO in Turn intended to be for G94 mode only? It seems that the FRO Increment can only be set as whole numbers..no decimal.
I was in G95, F 0.006  and clicked the + (increment was 2) nothing changed till the next cut. Then business REALLY picked up.  :o FULL THROTTLE.
Luckily..no damage done. I had entered what I thought was .002 for the increment but found afterwards that it would not accept a decimal amount.
Is this the way it's allways been ? This is the first time I tried it.
The manual covers this somewhat. It basically says to be careful when switching from G94 to G95 for obvious reasons. But it doesn't say that the FRO is not intended to work in G95. Maybe I overlooked something.
Thanks,
RC
Well I'll be danged.
I remembered something in the videos where it showed how to set the decimal point. "Warm and fuzzy feeling of having 4 places" or such. Anyway..%3.0f was there..I made both dros %3.3f and it now works fine.
Cool Stuff,
RC

Hmmmmm...I just CHOKED on my acorn !

Well.. I am still having a problem with the Feed Rate Override in M3Turn.
When I simply code G94 G1 Z10 F2 ,and try the FRO + and - while it is feeding, nothing changes. (Increment set at 1)
If I hit FeedHold, the dro goes to 000 and cannot be changed with + and -.
If I hit STOP, the dro can be changed with + and - but goes back to 2 when the Start is hit.
I've tried all I can find. M48 does nothing that I can see.
"No FRO on Queue" changes nothing either.
Would someone please check this and verify for me that it does or does not work properly in M3Turn ?
It works so wonderfully in Mill.
Thanks,
RC

I think the FRO had a load of bugs, has done for all time I think. Brian has however been working hard on it and think its fixed in the Dev versions. Not used it much on the lathe so cant be sure but it works well on the mill.

Man oh man....Thank you very much for that little tid bit Hood.
I've been beating a dead horse......again !  For hours.  >:(
I made sure that I did all of the research possible before posting though.  :)
Thanks for your help,
RC
One on One phone support at $5 a minute would have been cheap for this one.  :D

I did tests for Brian on my mill and lathe, if I did some code with  fast moves and then put the FRO way up to 300% the feedrate would never go above the max in motor tuning even though 300% would in theory take it well beyond. Also the G0 moves would not be affected as in previous versions. Brian also added in a Rapid override so you could lower your rapid moves if you wished. Both the FRO and RRO are now totally independant from eachother :)

Something I learned during my research and was not aware of....
In Mill, the FRO is set as a percentage.
In Turn, it is set as an incremental amount. Either in. or mm.
The first attachment is Mill....second is Turn. From the manuals.

Will have to look at that more as I use the lathe more. I am still at the moment tending to feed inmm/min on the lathe, obviously threading is in mm/rev but I really want to get to using mm/rev for all.
Dont tend to use the FRO much, only use it for dry runs where I crank it up full to test out the code before I let it go on metal instead of air :)
