leadscrew motor power
« on: January 15, 2008, 02:46:23 PM »
hi, i am using 16mm - 4mm pitch leadscrew with quite powerfull motors on my cnc, the x axis is 2000mm length, i do suffer from spindle whip if i run it at speed, so i have to have it running very slow, i can get some ballscrew 50mm - 14mm pitch, my question is, if the motors are running slow do i get more force out of them, ie bigger screw, higher pitch, slower motor speed, will ther be less chance of the motors struggling, and things can be speeded up a bit ??

many thanks

If you are using steppers, yes, they do develop more torque at slower speeds.

50mm is huge and 14mm is really steep.  If it were me, I'd wait and look for something in the range of 25-30mm x 5mm.
