Asigning a 4th linear axis ?

If I asign a rorary axis as a 4th linear axis will it behave the same as a liner axis when jogged.

The machine it will be used on is for a hot wire foam cutter. They have two X and Y axis, one on  the left and right hand side.

From what I gather, the machine is manually driven instead of g-code driven ( I think )

My question is, if I asign a rotary axis for the 4th axis, ( This is the only option I have) will the DRO display the same as a linear axis?

Make sense ?

Sorry Benny for hijacking this thread,
I have a similar question on the Z axis.
The Quill axis on my knee mill (Chinese) is not as good as the Knee axis (both Z)
So in manual times I tend to use the Knee rather than the Quill just to make sure.

So in Mach how would I define Z and Z1 ?
Is the 4th axis used for this ?
Needles to say the axis work in opposite ways

I would set it up as the C axis... and you should be good to go...
