USB Bandwith Problem & Solution

This relates to a laptop, i like to setup a bit at a time.

Once i enabled my network and plugged in my Pokeys the computer would crash this would only happen when i had the spindle running but not under gcode.

This was while i was still in the setup stages

I got round the crashed computer by inserting a switch to turn off the 5v supply to the SS this would allow the computer to regain control coming back with a message that the SS had lost communication.

I overcame the overall problem by adding a USB 2 PCMCIA card.

If you are using a desktop you may have the same problem with USB 1, so add a USB2 card

I am currently having a problem with tool changing in another thread.
I used my desktop to eliminate the computer part of the equation which it did.

My desktop currently runs with the parallel port fine.

Using it with the SS hooked into the slow USB port it ran out of data, so be warned.

It is not quite clear what your problem was, but:

My SS (and mach together with it) froze quite quickly if I started my spindle, and the SS or the USB cable of the SS was near the frequency converter, or the (shielded) cable of te spindle... Seems to be noise issue to me...
I route the SS  USB cable as far as possible from the spindle cables, and problem is gone...
