I want to control my lathe using Mach3 and a PoKeys57E board, running on Windows XP. The PoKeys unit is supposed to be connected directly to the PC. Unfortunately, I cannot establish a connection between the board and the PC. I am currently using a standard patch cable; could it be that a crossover cable is required for this connection?

You do not need a crossover cable.
You do need to check that .net framework 3.5 is installed and enabled for configuration of the 57e.
You need to set the correct IP address etc.
